Last weekend I had the opportunity to create the most beautiful wedding flowers for a wedding held at Cothay Manor, Somerset. Cothay Manor is one of my favourite wedding venues so I was so pleased when I heard I would be providing wedding flowers for Hannah and Steve. The theme for the wedding was country, vintage focusing on pale pinks, greens and ivory. Hannah wore a stunning Sassi Holford dress which featured lace heavily. Excess lace from the dress was used to tie to the bridal bouquet and bridesmaids bouquets.
Hannah’s bridal bouquet contained Sarah Bernhardt peonies, sweet avalanche roses, green hydrangea florets, gyp and eucalyptus foliage. The bouquets were neat and tightly packed with flowers, however the gyp and the blousy nature of the roses and peonies softened the look. The bridesmaids had ivory avalanche roses in their bouquet as well as the peonies, hydrangeas and gyp.
Hannah was really keen on using gyp throughout the wedding and I feel this really worked with the chosen flowers, and especially worked well with the lace detail of her dress. The two little flower girls carried gyp pomander balls tied with sage green ribbon, which were adorable and a very simple, yet effective idea.
Hannah and Steve were married at St John’s Church in Wellington and then made their way for their reception at Cothay Manor, a 15th century medieval manor and I think one of the most beautiful places that you could wish for to celebrate your wedding day. The Manor is surrounded by ponds and romantic gardens, where the marquee was situated to hold the reception.
Hannah had put so much thought into decorating the marquee with hand made bunting, bottles of sloe gin on the tables, a little lemonade stand to name just a few examples. The tables were decorated with a mix of country style flowers in terracotta pots. I tied white lace around the top of the pots to add extra interest and this really made the terracotta pots come alive, a great idea to use at any wedding, coloured ribbon or raffia would work just as well. The table centres contained avalanche roses, scented stocks, peonies, green lisianthus, gyp and eucalyptus.
The long, top table featured five slightly smaller arrangements in terracotta pots which were distributed evenly down the table, a great alternative to the traditional long and low trailing arrangement.
The wedding cake was a simple design with pink gingham ribbon. The top was decorated with a cake arrangement of sweet avalanche roses and gyp.
Finally to end on one of my favourite photos from the wedding day from Kerry Diamond Photography, a great photographer who alongside Penny Foster did a great job of capturing the day.
