Did someone say Peony Season?!

Peony Season! One of my favourite times of year, from mid April until mid July, these romantic, sumptuous balls of petals can be found in my workshop filling everything from bouquets, to arrangements, to huge big urn vases. A staple seasonal flower of late spring, early summer… and what a beauty! I always get asked for lots of requests from brides who are wanting peonies in their wedding flowers, and you can see why by just looking at them.  I even get some brides who have booked their wedding date between April and July just so they can have peonies… now that is dedicated to the floral cause!

Here I have used the beautiful Sarah Berndhart peonies: A pale pink, soft, fluffy show stopper of a flower! I have used them alongside hellebores, aquilegia and pale pink blossom snippets… which is also perfect for this time of year. I have also used a mixed selection of green and plum foliage, which adds real depth amongst the softer pale pink flowers. These dark plum hellebores have tinges of green, and such colour variation throughout the whole flower they really are stunning. The aquilegia is found growing in gardens at this time of year and comes in a range of colours from purple through to white and yellow. I have used a dusky pink double layered kind of variety here and I love the way the petals drop slightly like bells.

This natural and loose bouquet is a style that works so well for a late spring wedding, where you can really take advantage of the gardens and nature around us springing to life! Yet I also love how the bouquet still has an elegant feel to it, the perfect accompaniment to any blushing bride… Are you looking to have peonies in your wedding bouquet?!
