Summer Wedding Flowers on a Farm – The Rose Shed travels up North!

Last weekend the most beautiful wedding of my cousin Claire and her man Sam took place. The happy couple said their vows to each other at Whirlow Farm, a gorgeous farm setting in Sheffield. Usually I do tend to stick within the South West when it comes to delivering wedding flowers, however off we took with a van full of flowers up the M5! We had many discussions about what wedding flowers to choose in August, and with August being such an abundant month choice was plenty! Claire started off wanting flowers in varying shades of pink.. to which Sam’s reply was ‘What about a bit of red…!’ The guys always seem to want a bit of red in there… whatever the colour scheme!

Claire and Sam decided on using pale blue, blue, peach, coral and cream shades as their colour scheme focusing on seasonal flowers available in August only. Delphiniums, stocks, scabiosa, roses, astilbe, were the firm favourites and worked together so well. Claire wore a beautiful 50’s style dress so wanted a hand tied bouquet which was quite neat and compact yet still offering lots of texture and interest, including blue scabiosa, coral dahlias, Miss Piggy roses, Vuvuzela roses, Talea roses, peach spray roses, white stocks with rosemary, eucalyptus, senecio and scabiosa seed pods.

The bridesmaids carried smaller versions of the brides bouquets and we didn’t half scrub up well in our mismatching dresses! The two flowery dresses were chosen from French Connection and the coral and blue dresses were hand made so fitted in with the colour scheme perfectly. It was so nice to work with a different colour scheme, peach, coral and blue are perfect colours for a summer wedding! I tied the stems of the bouquets with cotton lace adding to the relaxed nature of the bouquets.

Here is my lovely cousin Abi, with Mabel the Pointer (well she couldn’t miss out could she!) on route to the farm!

For the buttonholes I did a great mixture of tied buttonhole bunches in corals, blues, peaches and creams so everyone could pick out their own. This worked well as there was some relaxed, variety amongst the buttonholes but still keeping within the same colour way. Sam the groom had a ‘Vuvuzela’ rose, my new favourite! Placed against a scabiosa seed pod and some eucalyptus foliage sprigs this looked great against his dark blue suit.

An extremely emotional ceremony, the lovely pair said their vows to each other under a floral arch, which was a team effort I must say Uncle David’s addition of bringing the yew tree foliage behind into the design…There is an aspiring florist within us all it seems! My family were a big help and it was lovely to all chip in and help make Claire and Sam’s day the best we could.

The milk churns got another outing, filled with delphiniums, hydrangeas, larkspur and roses these were placed either side of the hay bale ‘aisles’ adding to that farmyard setting, but in a natural and rustic way.

PapaKata provided the tipi reception tent which was amazing! So different to a normal marquee and so spacious… natural wooden tables were adorned with glass bottles and jam jars filled with seasonal flowers to add colour but in a non complicated way. The starter was sharing platters so we wanted to use the floral decorations in a spaced out way as to not to interfere with the food. Our family likes food just as much, if not more, than flowers! Sprigs of home grown rosemary travelled up from my Mum’s garden in Somerset to be added to the place settings keeping in with the country feel of the wedding.

I loved everything about this day and I was so thrilled too see Claire, Sam and baby Arthur have the beautiful wedding they deserved and for all the family to celebrate together!
