Summer Wedding Flower Inspiration – Down at the bottom of the garden!

People getting married in the summer are spoilt for choice when it comes to choosing wedding flowers, so how do you narrow down all that amazing wedding inspiration there is out there?! Today I am focusing on seasonal British flowers that would be perfect for a couple looking for some colour clashing brights, featuring summer classics such as cornflowers, zinnias, dahlias and sunflowers!

Warm corals, hot pinks, vibrant yellows work so well together and are great in the high summer months, with more people becoming less afraid of using bright flowers within their wedding and taking the plunge by carrying such beauties as these.  I can’t wait to show you some of these beautiful flower varieties available for your wedding flowers in the months of June, July and August.

These pictures were actually taken in my Mum’s garden, she is a brilliant gardener and her garden is definitely her pride and joy! I love the fact that each year she has a cutting patch sown with seasonal flowers with the aim of keeping the bees happy, but also keeping her florist daughter happy when she happens to drop by with her snips!

This year the patch was filled with brightly coloured zinnias in orange, coral, red, cerise, cream and yellow. A flower I have only used within the last few years however it is now one of my ultimate favourites and I have commissioned Mum to grow lots for my own wedding next July! The multi layered petals give them a similar look to dahlias and I love the yellow pop of the centres.

Cornflowers also scatter the cutting patch and the bright blue works perfectly amongst all the hot coloured zinnias and lupins. Here is a bouquet I whipped up, I also snuck around the rest of the garden snipping a few sunflowers, rudbekia, sedum, helanium and verberna but shhh!! Zinnias grown from seed from the ever so reliable Sarah Raven!
