I provided the most beautiful wedding flowers at Orchardleigh House for Selina and Ben this weekend! Soft blush, ivory and cream tones was the colour palette for their big day and marrying in late September this gave me the opportunity of using some autumnal delights as well as some of the summer varieties still available. I always find September is a lovely month to be married, therefore a busy one for us at The Rose Shed, and after seeing yesterday’s blue skies you can see why! The perfect autumnal day for a wedding in the newly opened Walled Gardens at Orchardleigh House.
Selina wanted a compact, hand tied filled with dahlias, O Hara roses…that have the MOST stunning smell on earth!!, peach Talea roses and chrysanthemum blooms. Some flower snobs may turn their noses up at chrysanthemums, but the blooms are magnificent and a real work of art on nature’s behalf! Perfect for autumn and they last wonderfully as a cut flower in a vase. For me it is all about working with the seasons and chrysanthemums scream autumn to me!
The boys had ivory ‘Avalanche’ roses with wax flower, rosemary and berried eucalyptus sprigs. This was the first time I had worked in the Walled Gardens and the orangery is stunning, with beautiful views onto the garden. Selina and Ben were lucky enough to have an outdoor ceremony with a lovely set up. Getting married in front of the fountain I placed large pickling jars either side of them, filled with tall white delphiniums, larkspur, dill, roses and beautiful English cafe au lait dahlias. The tone on those dahlias is one you cannot get from other flowers, and I am sure this flower alone has made the trend for ‘blush’ flowers so popular!
The chair aisles were decorated with jam jars hanging from the chair, filled with stocks, roses and blooms. I love adding splashes of colour down the aisle as this is where the bride makes her grand entrance. Placed at the beginning of the aisle were smaller pickling jars , overflowing with autumnal blooms.
Inside for the wedding breakfast, the Orangery was decorated with a mixture of tall glass vases with a domed arrangement, and lower glass vases. The low vases were filled with dahlias, stocks, spray roses and roses while the larger arrangements were filled with blooms, hypericum, lisianthus, hydrangeas, stocks and roses. A wonderful mix throughout, providing the blush, ivory and pale peach wedding flower look Selina was looking for.
