Creative ways to use Butter yellow in your wedding flowers

Butter yellow is one of the most beautiful colour palettes to use in a summer wedding. It is soft, elegant, romantic and can equally be a stylish way to incorporate colour to your flowers if you lean more on the side of wanting to keep your wedding flowers neutral.

Back in August we provided wedding flowers at Lympstone Manor, that were full of this beautiful soft yellow shade, lots of rich cream with crisp whites too. A gorgeous colour palette for an August wedding with so many amazing seasonal varieties available, I was spoilt for choice when it came to ordering from my suppliers! Lympstone Manor is one of the most exclusive venues in the south west, headed up by Michael Caines not only will the food be insanely good, everything about the venue is considered and stylish. I mean they even have their own vineyard… need I say more? Working with Laura Louise Hall Weddings, you can ensure this wedding was planned to the upmost perfection with stunning photography by Tara Statton.

How to use butter yellow in bridal bouquets:

Our bride wanted a refined yet textured bridal bouquet to compliment her gorgeous statement dress, so I kept the design neat and flower filled rather than wispy and whimsical. I used delicate flowers such as locally grown Orlaya and astrantia to add dainty texture and soften the blousier flowers such as the larger headed roses. If you are wanting to find the perfect soft yellow rose then ‘buttercream’ is the variety for you, a rich cream/soft yellow tone it has layers upon layer of petals resembling a ‘just picked’ garden rose, an absolute must to include in the special bridal work. Campanula, scabious and spray roses were included in the bouquets to bring more white, this stood out against the soft yellow satin bridesmaids dresses providing a fresh look.

Ceremony flowers at Lympstone Manor:

As Devon wedding florists we are lucky enough to travel the south west and work in some of the most beautiful locations, the view at Lympstone Manor has to be one of the most special. We arrived at the crack of dawn, amongst clouds of sea mist with no sign of the view at all. We quickly got to work, unloading the many buckets of flowers from the van and setting up the freestanding arch structure. I absolutely love this part of my job, the anticipation and the excitement on the morning of a wedding is next level… you know you are about to create something so beautiful and in a matter of hours the space will be completely transformed. It wasn’t long before the mist shifted and the sun came out, exposing us to that incredible view. Suncream was packed in the tool kit and passed around the team all morning!

Our couple opted for a large scale freestanding flower arch that would be the backdrop to the wedding ceremony overlooking the view of the vineyard, with the estuary behind. Buckets of British foliage such as hornbeam, beach and pitto formed the base of the arch, whilst we added in blousy roses, hydrangeas, stocks, spray roses, delphiniums to the arch. Again, our bride wanted a slightly neater look, so we definitely reigned in our desire to go wild and unruly here! There are so many amazing seasonal flowers available for an August wedding, like these lace cap hydrangeas. So delicate, and like the name suggests lace like in texture, a luxury flower that can truly elevate your designs.

How to create a flower aisle for your outdoor wedding:

As well as the statement flower arch, we created a meadow flower aisle for our happy couple to walk down, we flowered each side of the white carpeted aisle with tall meadow inspired blooms such as Larkspur, delphiniums, campanula alongside lots of natural foliage. This is a stunning way to emphasise your aisle yet also soften it at the same time, particularly if you are having a carpet outside.

Wedding reception flowers at Lympstone Manor:

After the ceremony guests were treated to cocktail hour outside in the stunning gardens, the sun had completely come out by now in its true August fashion, before moving inside to dine. Tall statement flower arrangements on clear glass plinths adorned the tables, allowing guests to view each other whilst sat down, but creating great impact as you walked into the dining room.

Using butter yellow flowers to decorate a marquee:

If you are holding a marquee in Devon and wishing to use soft yellow as a colour scheme, this is a great way to add warmth and interest to the blank canvas of a marquee. A marquee was placed at the pool house where the couple celebrated in the evening, we dressed the entrance to the marquee with a flower archway and surrounded the cake table with blooms for the all important cake cutting! Large stylish vases were placed throughout the pool house to create a cohesive look, really tying everything all together.

My top 5 butter yellow wedding flowers to use in a summer wedding:

  • Garden Roses: blousy, romantic, scented and the epitome of an English country garden, these are an absolute must for any wedding, especially if butter yellow if your colour palette.

  • Stocks: one of the most versatile summer blooms to use, their peppery scent tends to fill a whole marquee or church, so not only are these flowers beautiful, the scent is where they are most crucial.

  • Spray roses: with lots of delicate blooms on one stem, you can create impact yet in a natural and elegant way. Grouped together in clusters to emulate a sprawling garden rose, they can give your wedding flower designs a stylish and thoughtful look when used in this way.

  • Cosmos: a dainty daisy type bloom, cosmos work equally well by adding texture to bridal bouquets as they do used in table decorations. Their bouncy nature provides much needed movement and interest and they come in the most perfect shade of butter yellow.

  • Poppies: whimsical yet luxurious, that is a combination you cannot beat with the way the wonky stems can just curve, they can add movement to arrangements like no other flower.
